Transition to C0 DWR
At ZAJO, we're not just about outfitting you for the great outdoors; we're about doing it responsibly. Quality gear is essential for a great adventure, but equally important is how that gear impacts the world we love to explore. It's with this dual mission in mind that we're excited to share a significant stride in our environmental stewardship.
Beginning with the Silvretta jacket, a trusted staple in our lineup, we mark the start of an important transformation. This jacket is at the forefront of our shift from the standard C6 Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment to the environmentally superior C0 type.
What Exactly is DWR Treatment?
DWR, or Durable Water Repellent treatment, is like an invisible shield for your outdoor clothing. When a raindrop hits a DWR-treated garment, it doesn't soak in; instead, it beads up and rolls off. This technology is a staple in outdoor apparel, found in most jackets and trousers, ensuring you stay dry and comfortable during your adventures.
But we've realized it's time for a change. Not all DWR finishes are created equal, and at ZAJO, we're committed to finding the balance between high-performance gear and environmental responsibility. Hence, we're transitioning to C0 DWR – a choice that's good for you and the planet.
The Problem with C6 DWR Treatment
For years, the C6 finish has been a staple in the outdoor industry, elevating clothing to superior performance levels. However, this advancement comes with a significant environmental cost. The dark side of C6 lies in its reliance on perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs). These substances pose a serious threat not only to the environment but also to water systems and human health.
The persistence of PFCs is a major concern. These compounds don't just disappear; they take an extraordinarily long time to break down. Once they enter our environment, removing them is a near-impossible task. This lingering presence makes C6 DWR treatments a problematic choice for our planet.
Embracing C0 DWR: A Sustainable Solution
Recognizing the need for change, ZAJO has been searching for an alternative. And now, we've found it. We're proud to be among the first in the outdoor industry to transition to the C0 type of water repellent treatment.
C0 DWR stands out for its exceptional water-repellency, matching the quality of C6 but without the environmental drawbacks. Free from PFCs, C0 DWR represents a cleaner, safer choice for both the planet and our customers.
In practice, this shift means that your ZAJO jacket isn't just protecting you from the elements; it's also contributing to the protection of our planet. It's a dual promise of performance and planetary care that we're excited to offer.
A New Chapter Begins with the Silvretta Jacket
Transitioning to more sustainable practices is a journey, and every journey begins with a single, decisive step. For ZAJO, that step is the introduction of the C0 water repellent treatment to our Silvretta waterproof jacket, leading the way in this important initiative.
The revamped Silvretta jacket, featuring the eco-friendly C0 treatment, will make its debut in our warehouses and on store shelves in January 2024!
Beyond the Silvretta
This shift, however, is just the starting point. Following the Silvretta's lead, we will gradually extend the C0 treatment to other models in our range. Expect to see an increasing number of C0-treated models joining our collection during the spring and summer of 2024. Our ultimate aim is comprehensive: to apply this new, environmentally-conscious DWR treatment across our entire product line.
We recognize the complexity of this transition. Yet, at ZAJO, we're committed to doing things the right way, not just the easy way.
Thank you for joining us on this crucial journey to a sustainable future!
